Ohio, USA sightseeing and shopping

De afgelopen week ben ik naar een vriendin in Ohio, USA geweest. Super gezellig, leuke plaatsen gezien en goedkoop quiltstofjes en magazines kunnen kopen. Later laat ik de stoffen zien.
Last week I visited my friend in Ohio, USA. We had a great time, did some sightseeing and went shopping. The quilting fabrics are very cheap for me there.

Ik vond tientallen quilt tijdschriften. Moelijk om er een paar uit te kiezen.
It was difficult to choose from all the different quilt-mgazines...



Hier staan de Amish paard en wagens geparkeerd. We zagen er erg veel rijden.
This is where all the Amish horse wagons were parked. We saw a lot off them.

Het was erg mooi weer dus de was hing overal, vaak erg hoog, te drogen. Zo ook hier de Amish jurken aan de lijn.
The weather was beautiful and obviously a great time for drying the laundry outside. Here you see all the coloured Amish dresses.

Er lag nog erg veel ijs op het Erie meer en zag er sprookjes-achtig uit.
There was still a lot of ice on lake Erie. It makes a beautiful picture.

Het lijkt erop dat je dit kan eten....maar nee hoor, dit zijn hondensnoepjes!?
No this is not something people eat.... but they are for sale in the petstore!? I'm sure I never saw something like this in the Netherlands!

Als ik foto's heb van de quiltstoffen laat ik ze gauw zien.
I will show the quilt fabrics as soon as I made pictures of them.

klosjes

Dit is het resultaat van deze week !

This is the result of last week!





Nadat ik 4 blokjes met de hand had gemaakt bleef ik toch denken aan een manier om ze met de naaimachine te maken. Dat is echt wat ik het liefst doe. Ik werk netter met de machine en alle blokjes worden hetzelfde formaat. Ik vind het heerlijk om op mijn gemak alles te snijden, mooie stapeltjes te maken en dan alles achter de machine in lange rijen te naaien. Soms ben ik zo enthousiast dat ik wel erg veel van een stofje maak omdat het zo lekker ging...

After making 4 klosjes by hand, I tried to figure out how to make them by using my sewing machine. I love seing on the machine. My work looks more precise and all the klosjes are the same size. I think I like the whole proces: ironing, cutting, making little piles of fabric shapes and then seing them on the machine using chaine-piecing. After all this I end up with a lot klosjes at once or even more then I needed because I liked making them ( without counting)...

Hierboven de eerste 2 stukjes.Ik naai eerst alle zijkanten aan het middendeel. Daarbij naai ik niet over de naadtoeslagen heen. Op de foto zijn misschien de blauwe puntjes te zien in de hoeken.

Above the first 2 pieces.The first part is to sew all the side parts to the middle one. While doing this I don't sew over the seam-allowences. May-be you see the blue spots on the picture in the corners.

Dit is dan het resultaat. Hierna moet je nog de overgebleven 4 naadjes naaien. Je begint vanuit het midden, bij het vierkantje en naait naar de buitnekant van het klosje.
This is the result. The next step is to sew all 4 remaining seams. They are sewn from the square fabric to the outside of the klosje.

Ik strijk mijn klosjes zoals hieronder te zien is, aan de achterkant.

Dit zijn 4 grote en 16 kleintjes. De volgende zijn weer anders van kleur en dan worden ze gemixt. Ik wil proberen alleen met rood, blauw en gebroken wit te werken.
Super leuk om te doen!
In total I made 4 big ones and 16 little klosjes. The next klosjes I will be making are from different fabrics and then I mix them all up. I only use red, blue and white ( a yellowish white).
This is really the way I like to do it!

Nieuwe beer!

Deze beer heeft ruim een jaar onderin de kast gelegen, zonder gezicht en zonder vulling in zijn lijf... Vrijdag zag ik hem verkreukeld liggen en had ik ineens zin om hem dit weekend af te maken. Het was vandaag buiten nog flink koud dus heeft hij een das gekregen. Ik ben echt blij dat het zin in 'beren maken' ineens terug kwam!

This bear has been laying down in the closet for more then one year, without face and filling in his body...Fridaynight I saw him in the back of my closet and suddenly wanted to finish him this weekend. To stand the cold today I gave him a woolen scarf. I was really happy that I feel like making bears again!

In mijn volkstuintje is nog niet veel groen te zien, dan nog maar een keer op de foto op het balkon tussen de bolletjes.
Outside at my allotment there's not so much green to see yet, so I took pictures between the bulbs at our balcony.



En weer gauw naar binnen tussen de andere beren!
And fast back inside, joining the other bears!

Klosjes

De eerste klosjes!!! En zelfs met de hand genaaid! Ik doe eigenlijk alles het liefst op de machine. Nu het zaterdag is kan ik ze laten zien. Ik zal snel gaan kijken hoe de klosjes erut zien op de andere websites.
My first 'klosjes'!! they are even handstitched! Normally I prefer to sew on the machine. Now it's saturday so I thought I would show them. Iwill have a look now on the other weblogs and see the other klosjes.

Poppenquilt/ Dollquilt

Van restjes heb ik deze poppenquilt gemaakt. Hij is aan elkaar gestikt op de featherweight en doorgequit op mijn Pfaff, want ik wilde weer eens het quilten uit de vrije hand oefenen (en ik heb niet zoveel geduld om met de hand te quilten).
It was fun making this dollquilt from leftovers. I made it on the featherweight ande quilted it on my Pfaff ( I'm not really a hand quilter). I wanted to practise free hand quilting again.

Uitzicht/ View

Deze foto maakte ik om 8 uur 's ochtends. Dit is mijn uitzicht van de voorkant.

De kleuren van de lucht deden me denken aan een oud Holllands schilderij. Leuk om ooit nog eens na te schilderen dacht ik...Ik heb er echt van genoten en een tijdje in de kou staan kijken.
At 8 o'clock in the morning I made this picture, it's my view at the front. The sky reminded me of old Dutch paintings. Maybe I would like to pant this one day... It was a little cold but I liked it very much to look for a while.

Surprise Spring Swap

Op 2 maart liet ik mijn 'Surprise' zien die ik van mijn swappartner Fallon kreeg en dit is de Surprise Spring Swap die ik naar Fallon stuurde.
On the second of march I wrote about the surpise I received from Fallon .Now I will show you what I sent Fallon.

Je moest 2 fat quarters stof opsturen en een 'surprise' maken en het moest in een grote enveloppe passen. Natuurlijk alles leuk inpakken en een kaartje erbij. Dit zijn de stofjes en het etuite (toilettas) die ik maakte. Dit was de eerste die ik maakte en gelukkig goed gelukt. Een rits inzetten is nog steeds niet mijn favourite klusje.
Ik zou er zelf ook wel een willen hebben maar dat is er nog niet van gekomen!
For the swap you had to send 2 fat quarters fabric and something selfmade as a surprise. Then send it along with a card and niceley wrapped. It all had to fit in a large enveloppe. This is what I made. The pooch was actually the very first one I tried and it worked out well. I was very happy with it. ( although I still find it difficult to put in a zipper). Someday I hope to make one for myself.

Het was super om mee te doen met deze 'swap' en natuurlijk met een 'swap-partner' als Fallon! Dit zal zeker niet de laatste keer zijn.
It felt very good joining this swap and having Fallon as my 'swap-partner'. Hope to do this all again.

Hawai quilt

Deze quilt maakte ik in 2004 en hij is ongeveer 1m bij 1m groot. De kleuren die ik gebruikte zijn donker paars en zandkleuren. De patronen verkleinde ik met de helft, daardoor was het lastig om ze uit de stof te knippen en vast te naaien.Het was veel meer werk dan ik dacht. Ik wilde dat het goed zou lukken want het was een cadeau voor mijn moeder. Helaas had ik er nooit foto's van gemaakt tot vorige week en hier zijn ze dan. De kleuren zijn niet zo duidelijk als in het echt dus misschien moet hij nog een keer op de foto maar dan buiten. De zandkleuren zijn bijna hetzelfde als de muur waar hij op hangt, dat was toeval. Gelukkig is mijn moeder er nog steeds heel blij mee.

It has been 6 years now since I made this quilt. It measures 1m by 1m and the colours are dark purple and sandy colours. The patterns are scaled to 50 % and that made it difficult to cut the fabrics and to sew it on the sewing machine. Much more work then I thought! I wanted it to be good because it was a present for my mother. I never made pictures until last week and here they are. May be I will make other pictures outside some day. Luckiley My mum is still very happy with the quilt.

Surprise Spring Swap

Today was the day!!! When I came home I found a Big yellow envelop in my mailbox and imidiateley thougt of the swap. Rushed upstairs and then I waited, made some tea, and sat down to enjoy, because I waited for this moment and I wanted to enjoy every minute of it.

This is what came out of it: a package with little birds stamped on it and a ribbon of lace.I find it so much more excited to open a package if I know there is something in it wich is 'homemade'.


I first read this nice card with your friendly words. Thank you Fallon! I'm a little bit struggling finding words to express my feelings. I find that much easier in Dutch. The card looks the same as my sewing table, isn't that funny. You really must have been looking very good here on my weblog. And I like the green strawberry.



In the selfmade wrapping paper was a beautiful pillow cover! I really didn't expect such a real big present. It is one of the covers I saw in Fallon's store. I was actually impressed because of the subjects (houses and garden) and the colors which Fallon chose. See here these pictures..... I think I never showed my couch and diningroom chairs...Very good match I think. I find a good size pillow to put inside and it sits on my favourite chair.




I think it looks very happy and I love the flowers in the garden and the 'real' garden bench!



The fabrics are very beautiful. The one with the birds are just my colors, a lot of red and purple. The other one is funny and different from everything else. I also like that one very much.




So I hope you have had a good view of the surprise swap. I'm very happy with it. I could not have imagined that it would be such fun to join this swap.
Thanks also to Heleen and Corrie for organising this swap.
And Thank you very much Fallon to have put so much effort and care in this surprise swap. I hope you will receive mine soon.
